And I use IA to build the install.The only difference (I'm guessing) is that a BDE application is accessingthe registry and then idapi32.cfg via one or more of the BDE dlls which theBDE admin utility wouldn't require - it just maintains the file directlyAFAIK.I don't suppose you can run your BDE app when logged on as the 'proper'administrator either?It is all a bit mysterious.I've actually had trouble running DB Desktop since yesterday to check someparadox table layouts - it will only run if I use runas with the admin logon - despite the fact that my usual logon is in the admin group. I don't have this problem with the Advantage-based application. But no one else, as far as I can see, has mentioned it. I actually think it's something to do with Win 7. No matterwhat I try, I just get the old can't initialize BDE, dir is controlled byanother.NET file - and I'm using XP!I was beginning to suspect some sort of virus or corruption since itfollowed a DBD 'hang'.

Under Windows 7 the customer keeps getting the error 'Cannot find BDE configuration file'.I'm beginning to think you have the obscure error market cornered:-)Sounds like a permissions thing to me, especially as it's in C:ProgramFiles.You can place the config file in the public folder hierarchy, it doesn'thave to go where it is now.Also, what version of Delphi was it written in?īecause the installations complete, the keys are all there, the BDE is installed. I have set up my application so it uses a TSession to find out if the database alias exists. Wrote in message customer has run into a very strange thing.
